Compulsory Medical And Health Insurance

It is compulsory for each student entering Malaysia to study to have medical insurance. All International Students of University of Malaya must be covered by a locally purchased Medical and Health Insurance (‘Medical Insurance’) appointed by the University.

Insurance Coverage Extension

Students are reminded that it is compulsory for them to have a valid medical insurance package throughout the period of study. International students who’s medical and health insurance cover period expires prior to the expiry of their existing student pass are required to top up/extend their insurance. The insurance top up amount should be sufficient to cover them until the expiry of their existing student pass or a maximum of 12 months from the insurance start date, whichever is lower.

Reimbursement

The medical expenses will be on reimbursement basis (pay and claim) subject to the policy Terms, Conditions and Exclusions. Please complete/fill up the Hospital Claim Form (where necessary) and submit the relevant documents as required in the “claim checklist” that attached to the claim form.

THE COVERAGE PLAN

University of Malaya being the Policyholder will ensure all the international students registered for the new semester after February 2015 are covered under this medical/insurance plan underwritten by Etiqa Takaful Berhad. Etiqa Takaful is an established Takaful Company that provides a shariah compliance insurance package and is backed by the largest local bank, Maybank Group. The overall plan provided is based on the arrangement made between the University, Insurance Provider and its Corporate Agency Company who managed this plan. This is compulsory plan to all the active students registered after February 2015.
This plan will be managed by the Corporate agency of Etiqa Takaful, NZ Network Management Services Sdn Bhd.

Student’s Registration Period

II) New Student

1 month before the insurance expiry date (if the policy lapsed, 3 main policy exclusions shall re-apply).

I) Existing Student

Within one (1) month from registration date.

As required by UM, all students are advised to register and pay the premium/contribution directly with us within the time frame set above.
